ed started out as a specialized content management management system for school websites. Unfortunately, the only school that was using it has gone all backwards, cancelling their hosting and allowing their domain to expire. I liked the look and feel of the backend, though, so I decided to start from scratch building something new around ed’s interface.
ed.mkII is a CMS that I wrote at the end of 2007 to power this site. It is PHP/MySQL based, with a good dose of AJAX thrown in (via Scriptaculous). It is totally modular (adding functionality is relatively simple), with plugin support. It also has a rudimentary theme engine. Shortly after it went live, I was approached by a client, and we decided to adapt ed.mkII for the project he had in mind. At the end of the day, the CMS had multi-user support built on top of the already existing features. After months of development, it became clear that the project would take a bit longer than anticipated (not my fault), so I handed it over to another developer (seeing as I had a degree to finish).
ed.mkII was my pet project for close to two years, and I learned quite a lot from the process. It does have its shortcomings, though, and that’s why my site is running on Wordpress at the moment.
Here’s the source if you don’t mind that it’s exactly as I last left it.
Here’s here a bit more information.
Unfortunately I cannot offer any support.
